On January 30th, 2016, we joined St. Petersburg Preservation for their weekend walking tour of the historic Allendale neighborhood, which was platted by Cade Allen in the early 1920s. Mr. Allen was a developer and realtor who personally built five homes in the neighborhood. The neighborhood is known for its brick streets, large homes with stone veneer, and abundant tree shade.
We were lucky enough to have the opportunity to tour one of the homes built by Mr. Allen on Foster Hill Drive North in 1900. It is a true beauty. The current owners purchased it in 2008 and have done an amazing job with preserving its charm. Below are a few cell phone photos we snapped while touring the house. It is definitely way more beautiful and charming in person.
To make the day even more exciting, we had the opportunity to tour another gorgeous Allendale neighborhood home, right across the street from the Cade Allen home. This one was built in 1938. It was not built by Mr. Allen. The current owners purchased it in 2012 and have done an incredible job with preserving its original charm. It is even has the original indoor koi pond and George Snow Hill mural. Below are a few photos we snapped during the tour. Enjoy!
